Obituary of Steven DeRose

It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the passing of Steven M. DeRose, age 70, of Brooksville, Florida on November 29, 2020. Born on February 1, 1950 to John and Marie (DeFrancesco) DeRose in Boston, Massachusetts. He will lovingly live on in the hearts of his family and many friends. He leaves behind his daughter, Doreen DeRose of New Hampshire, his daughter Michelle Nicolaisen and her husband Joseph of Massachusetts, his son Mark of New Hampshire, his brother John and his wife Annie of Massachusetts, his sister Diane Millward and her husband Phil of New Hampshire and his grandchildren Braden and Madelyn Nicolaisen whom he adored, along with many aunts, uncles, nephews, a niece, and cousins. He also leaves behind his girlfriend of 23 years, Kimberly Mercer of Florida, whose family had also become his own including Kimberly’s daughter, Angella Mercer-Stanley of Florida, her husband Barry and their children Kayla, Christian and Nicolas whom he very much loved being grandpa to and Kimberly’s son, Ronald A. Mercer of Florida. In addition to having a deep love for family, Steven had a passion for fishing, gardening, and bowling – all of which he enjoyed sharing with those in his life. From taking you with him in the early morning hours to “just the right spot” to catch his next bass, to sending you pictures of his crepe myrtles and green lawn, or telling you just how he hit that spare, he always had smile and a story to share. Steven was also a friend of Bill W. and was active for over 30 years in the recovery community both in Florida and Massachusetts, always extending a hand to those in need. His absence from the rooms will be felt by many. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Memorial Donations may be made in his name to non-profits assisting people during this pandemic and/or a recovery program of your choice. The family also wishes to extend a heartfelt "thank you" to the staff at the Oak Hill Hospital of Brooksville for the care and compassion they showed Steven and his family during his final days.
