My wife Mary Lou and I were very sorry about the passing of Danny's wife Anna. Mary Lou would always look for her at Rescue 1 get togethers.
Danny and I came to Rescue 1 about the same time, 73/74, Danny a couple of months ahead of me. We have been good friends for the 47 years since then. He was in Group 1 and I was in Group 2 for 16 years in Rescue 1. We experienced many adventures together in those busy years..
Danny was the Rescue 1 Chauffeur for the Captains Bill Anderson (who brought us to the Rescue), Tom Baldwin and Brian O'Flaherty. Danny was a good solid, reliable chauffeur and a great mechanic (a great asset for a Rescue man).
As a diver , Danny would often help me get dressed to make sure I had whatever I needed, even a searchlight that was an after thought in the black water around New York.
In September of 1979 Captain Tom Baldwin detailed Danny and me for the fireguard for Pope John Paul II at the private residence of Cardinal Cook on Madison Avenue in back of St Patrick's Cathedral. A night to remember.
For many years I rode to work with him.
I will say this; he insisted that he didn't listen to me. Well on page 90 of the book "Fireman" there is a great picture of Danny really listening to me.
Danny, I will miss you in the world.
Your Friend
George Kreuscher, R1
P.S. Danny would often say "Kreuscher, you went too far this time"

Dad and mom ate dinner several nights a week at Applebee’s. When mom died 6 years ago, dad started eating dinner there every night (when he wasn’t globe trotting). Today we got a visit from one of the beautiful people from Applebee’s, who shared their sadness over the loss of dad. She left us this card. It’s heartfelt and amazing and speaks to how we connect with all people in life.
“Sometimes you wanna go
Where everybody knows your name
And they're always glad you came
You wanna be where you can see (ah-ah)
Our troubles are all the same (ah-ah)
You wanna be where everybody knows your name.”
